### **Award Category**

In the **Recognition Module** Awards tab, you can enhance the ease of searching and organization by categorizing awards. Access the "Award Category" drop-down list and select your desired category to view all awards within that specific group. MangoApps offers eight pre-defined recognition categories, encompassing over 40 awards. For category management and creation, you can navigate to the [Categories](https://guides.mangoapps.com/admin-guide/module-settings/recognition/categories) tab.

### **Choice of Awards**

Once you've chosen a category, this page will display all the recognition awards available within that specific category on your domain.

**Award Name:** Name of the award next to the uploaded award graphic.

**Reward Points:** These are points that can be redeemed and are allocated to the award. You can use these points to claim gift cards or make donations based on the configuration set by your company's Catalog Provider. You can locate the **Catalog Provider** option in the **Settings** tab within the **Recognition Module**. Users can redeem these points from their profiles or **Rewards Wallet Widget**.

**Gamification Points:** These points are specifically designated for gamification purposes and are allocated to the award. Gamification points contribute to a user's profile, helping them achieve higher levels and badges within the User Portal. Gamification points **cannot** be redeemed for rewards. MangoApps does **NOT** track gamification points for Guest Users.

**Status:** This indicates the current status of the award. Awards marked as 'Inactive' are not visible on the User Portal.

**Actions:** Click the(three dots) button to open the pop-up for additional menu options.

**Deactivate:** For active awards, click **Deactivate** to deactivate the award and change its status to 'Inactive'. Deactivated awards are **NOT** displayed on the User Portal. Places where a deleted award was already shared will **NOT** be deleted if you delete the award.

**Activate:** For deactivated awards, click **Activate** to activate the award and change its status to 'Active'.

**Delete:** For custom awards only. Click **Delete** to delete the award from your domain. You **CANNOT** delete a pre-shipped out-of-the-box award.

**Edit:** To make changes to any award, click on the "Edit" option to open the "Edit Award Details" pop-up. Modification to the Category, Name, and Description of out-of-the-box awards cannot be changed. However, their Reward and Gamification points can be edited.

### Add New Award

In addition to the out of the box options, MangoApps also provides the flexibility to create custom awards tailored to your specific needs and preferences. To set up these custom awards, follow the steps below.

1. Click the **+ Add New Award** button to open the Add New Award pop-up. For this example, we will be setting up a Top Performer Award for a specific branch location.
2. Select the category for which you want to create an award in the *Award Category* drop-down. For example, select *Above and Beyond* from the Select Award Category drop-down.
3. Enter the name for the award in the *Award Name* text box. This field is required.
4. Add a description for the award in the *Description* text box.
5. Add an image for the award in the image box. The recommended size for this photo is 600x315 pixels.
6. Enter the reward points for the award in the *Reward Points* text box. This is the value for points that can be redeemed in the Reward Points Catalog. This field can be left blank. Any numeric value can be assigned to the reward points. No points are deducted from the company credit pool when you assign reward points to an award; deductions from the company credit pool occur only when the award is actually given to an employee.
7. Enter the gamification points for the award in the *Gamification Points* text box. These points cannot be redeemed. You can enter a value up to 50, but it is not a required field.
8. Click the **Save** button to add the new award to the selected category on your domain for all users. It will appear at the bottom of the Awards list within the designated category.

### Awards Approval Workflow

Network and Recognition administrators have the ability to allocate pools of reward points to their respective management teams, who can then distribute these points to their user teams. Here's a glimpse behind the scenes at the process when an award with reward points is granted.

Awards that have reward points associated with them will show the rewards points in the Give Recognition dialog. Awarders can see how many points they have been allocated to give out.

When the Awarder gives an award/recognition, then the following sequence of events happens:

* Awarded site workflow
  * Reward points associated with the award will be deducted from Awarder's allocated points pool. For more information about **Rewards Point Allocation**, click [here](https://guides.mangoapps.com/admin-guide/module-settings/recognition/reward-points-allocation).
    * If the Awarder has enough allocated reward points, then the Awarder's points are deducted from their pool, the company credits pool, and the award is given to the recipient.
    * If the Awarder does **not** have enough allocated reward points, then the points will be withdrawn from the pool of the user segments they belong to, and also from the company credit pool. The award will then be given.
    * If all the above allocations fall short, then an automatic in-built awards approval workflow is triggered to the direct manager of the Awarder or to the default approver's list (if there is no direct manager). The next level of the Approval Workflow is then triggered.
* Direct Manager approval workflow
  * Suppose the direct manager has enough allocated reward points and approves the award. In that case, the direct manager's allocated rewards points are subtracted, the company credit is subtracted, and the award is given to the recipient.
    * Suppose the direct manager needs more allocated reward points (including the user segments they belong to). In that case, no reward points are subtracted, and the award is not given to the recipient.
    * If no direct manager is assigned to the Awarder, then the default approver's list set up by the network admin/recognition admin is sent an approval request.
* Default approver's list approval workflow
  * Suppose any of the default approver's list users approve. In that case, the approver's rewards points pool is subtracted, the company credit pool is subtracted, and the award is given to the recipient.
    * If any default approver's list users decline, no reward points are subtracted, and the award is not given to the recipient.
    * Suppose the default approver's list of users needs more allocated reward points (including the user segments they belong to). In that case, no reward points are subtracted, and the award is not given to the recipient.

For a use case example of the workflow in action, check out the **Reward Points Allocation** FAQ section [here](https://guides.mangoapps.com/admin-guide/module-settings/recognition/reward-points-allocation#faqs).
