Delete Settings

Configuring the domain-wide chat delete settings

Overview

Delete settings allow admins to control whether users can delete private messages and chats. Keep in mind, domain admins may need to disallow message deletion if legal requirements mandate retaining all communications.

The Delete Settings provide control over the following types of messages:

  • Private Chat & Messages

  • Team Chat

Deleted messages cannot be restored, even by network admins.

Any modification to the Delete Settings is logged in the Audit Log for compliance tracking.


Private Chat & Messages

Private Chat & Messages settings determine whether users can delete their private messages and one-on-one chat conversations.

  • No one can delete messages: Select this option to prevent users from deleting any sent message in one-on-one chats.

  • User can delete own messages (default): Select this option to allow users to delete messages they have sent in private chat conversations.

Deleting Private Messages

Users can delete messages they have sent in private chats through the web portal, desktop, and mobile applications, depending on the configurations set by the admin.

Steps to Delete Private Messages:

  1. Go to User Portal > Chats module.

  2. Select the private chat conversation.

  3. Click the three dots button to open the pop-up menu and select Delete Specific Messages.

  4. Mark the messages you want to delete and click the Delete button.

  5. In the confirmation pop-up, click Delete Selected Messages to permanently remove the messages.


Team Chat

Team chat settings control whether users can delete messages from team conversations.

Teams, in this instance, refer to projects, groups, departments, and ad-hoc chat groups.

  • No one can delete messages: Prevents users from deleting any chat messages in teams.

  • Only team admins & network admins can delete messages: Allows only team admins and network admins to delete messages in team chats. Admins can delete both their own and other users' messages.

  • User can delete own messages (default): Allows users to delete messages they have sent in team chats.


Guest User Permissions

Guest users follow the same rules and steps as network users when deleting messages they have sent in private and team chats. The deletion permission depends on the configurations set in the Delete Settings for all users.
