Q. How does MangoApps calculate SMS costs when sending messages through Campaigns? If an SMS exceeds 160 characters, will it count as multiple messages?
A: Yes, MangoApps follows the standard SMS character limit of 160 characters per message. If a Campaign SMS exceeds this limit, it will be split into multiple messages, incurring additional SMS costs. For example:
A message up to 160 characters is counted as 1 SMS.
A message between 161-320 characters will be counted as 2 SMS.
A message between 321-480 characters will be counted as 3 SMS, and so on.
Additionally, any dynamically appended URLs (such as tracking links) count toward the total character count, which may increase the number of SMS messages used.
Q: How can a we honor opt-out preferences when transitioning from another SMS provider (e.g., Clicksend) to MangoApps?
A: As a one-time onboarding activity, MangoApps can set default opt-out preferences for employees who have previously opted out of SMS notifications. To do this, you must provide a CSV or XLS file containing the employee ID or email addresses of those who have opted out. Once uploaded, these users will not receive SMS messages unless they manually opt back in.
Q: Can MangoApps warn users when a Campaign SMS exceeds the single-message limit?
A: Currently, there is no automatic character limit enforcement, but a planned future feature may include an indicator showing how many SMS credits a message will use based on its length. This could help users anticipate potential extra costs before sending their messages.
