πŸ†•Create a Quiz with AI

Overview

Creating a quiz with AI allows instructors and administrators to generate structured, ready-to-use quizzes automatically using artificial intelligence. Quizzes can be generated from a custom prompt, uploaded documents, or existing LMS course content, significantly reducing the time and effort required to build assessments while maintaining accuracy and relevance.

This capability supports both LMS-based quizzes created within courses and standalone quizzes created independently, giving teams flexibility in how assessments are designed and deployed.

Before You Begin

AI-powered quiz creation is available when AI creation and quiz permissions are enabled for your domain. Administrators manage this from the Admin Portal under AI settings, where AI creation for pages, quizzes, surveys, trackers, and wikis must be enabled. The Quiz module must also be active, and users must have permission to create quizzes as defined in quiz module settings.

Administrators can optionally provide company-specific guidance within AI settings to influence tone, terminology, and style, ensuring AI-generated quizzes align with organizational standards and learning objectives.

LMS and Quiz Module

Quizzes can be created with AI in two primary ways: from LMS course content or from standalone documents and prompts.

When creating a quiz within an LMS course, the AI automatically uses available course materials as its knowledge source. This includes the course title and description, chapter content, attached PDF or PowerPoint files with OCR support, and video transcripts. The resulting quiz is aligned with the learning content and context of the specific course chapter.

For standalone quiz creation, users can provide a custom prompt or upload a document such as a PDF, DOC, or DOCX file. The AI analyzes the uploaded content and generates quiz questions that are directly answerable from the document, ensuring relevance and accuracy.

Creating the Quiz with AI

To create a quiz with AI, start from the compose button or from within an LMS course chapter and select the option to create a quiz using AI. You can choose a smart prompt template for common training scenarios such as corporate compliance, cybersecurity awareness, or new hire training, or write your own custom prompt of up to 2,000 characters.

The AI generates a quiz with logically structured questions, mixed question formats, and mapped correct answers. Supported formats include multiple-choice questions, ranking questions, and text-based responses. A default option allows all questions to be marked as required, which can be adjusted as needed.

The creation flow includes a real-time progress experience that displays staged updates as the quiz is structured, refined, and finalized.

Image-Based Quiz Questions

Quiz creation with AI supports image-based questions to enhance visual learning and assessment accuracy. You can choose to include AI-generated images, upload up to five images manually, or create text-only questions. Image-based questions are particularly useful for training scenarios that involve visual recognition, safety checks, equipment identification, or process validation.

A featured image is also generated automatically based on the quiz title to provide a consistent and polished presentation.

Reviewing & Editing the Quiz

Once the quiz is generated, a preview panel displays all questions and answers before saving. You can regenerate the quiz if adjustments are needed, either by refining the prompt or replacing the uploaded document.

When you proceed, the quiz is created as a draft and opens directly in the full Quiz Designer. From there, you have complete control to edit questions, adjust answer options, reorder content, add or remove questions, configure settings, and finalize the quiz for publishing.

Automatic answer generation is applied to multiple-choice questions, ensuring correct answer mapping is already in place when you begin editing.

Publishing the Quiz

After reviewing and refining the draft, you can publish the quiz following standard quiz workflows. For LMS-based quizzes, the quiz becomes part of the course structure and follows existing assignment, completion, and reporting behavior.

For standalone quizzes, distribution and access follow the configured quiz settings.

Tips for Best Results

When writing prompts, clearly describe the subject matter, target audience, and desired difficulty level to help the AI generate relevant and appropriately scoped questions. Review generated content carefully, especially for compliance or certification scenarios, and make any necessary edits before publishing. Image-based questions are most effective when visuals directly support the learning objective.
